poblano, 4×6in, acrylic on panel
if the poblano’s got you thinking of spicy food, you’re in luck -
click here for some of our faves if you decide to stop by & looking to chow in the neighborhood.

the food studies were initially started to knock the rust off, & get space back into the larger works. the red farmhouse (center, 2ft x2ft) is one of the first of the pieces to make the jump from a small charcoal study to a painting & feels like a great sign of things to come.

habanero, 4×6in, acrylic on panel
with the first snow of the season falling in providence this morning, i thought i’d share a little red(ish) and green for the holidays. (which, because of all of the golden foliage – least in this neck of the woods – seem like months away.)

avocado, 4×6in, acrylic on panel
both are at the 103rd Annual Little Pictures Show & Sale at the Providence Art Club.
later this week, post turkey-coma, i’ll update the art club link to the right to reflect the works currently available at the cash & carry event. also will have more news on the upcoming open studio & gallery happenings -
happy thanksgivin’

martini, 4×6in, acrylic on panel
it’s friday – if there was ever a reason for cocktail hour. compared to my first shot at a martini last year, this one’s a little less defined – and i’m not entirely sold on the ellipses at the base – but i feel like i’m getting more air, and more light, into the space of the picture.

(perfect) manhattan, 4×6in, acrylic on panel
these 2 will be at the kickoff of the 103rd Annual Little Pictures Show & Sale at the Providence Art Club this sunday. (more at bottom)
also this weekend, the folks at Charlestown Gallery will have some of my work (as part of their stable) at the Boston International Fine Art Show. 40 other galleries will be at the show – i’m esp. looking forward to the originals at Arcadia Fine Arts from NYC. it’s a chance to see some art in the South End & mangiare in the North End – not bad weekend at all.

Amarone bottle, 5×12in, acrylic on panel
speaking of Italian food – grazie to gilly for the brokering the commish & making the fine photo of the vino painting above.

mini carrot cake, 6×6in, acrylic on panel
the mini carrot cake is about to make its debut in Newport, RI tonight.
Cottage & Garden, a shop filled to the gills with unique home & garden decor…antiques…and, for the holidays, 20ish of my food paintings. we dropped 3 last week and 2 are already gone – so while it might seem a little unconventional , it also seems like a great fit.
several works will also be ’round the corner at Tastemaker (Cottage & Garden’s sister store) along side the featured artist, acclaimed Providence painter Ruth Dealy. all the details are at the bottom of the post.
and now for the icing on the…cookie.

Drop in and Decorate is, in the words of lydia walshin of ninecooks, a simple concept: bake some cookies, invite friends or family (or neighbors, or co-workers) to drop by and help decorate, then donate your cookies to a local food pantry, emergency shelter, senior center, lunch program, or other community agency serving neighbors in need.
i’ll fess up – lydia’s also partner in Will Paint For Food…and the new logo above is my work.
it’s a fantastic way to give for the holidays. learn how to host a party, or buy a kit, here.
for the opening tonight:
Cottage & Garden
Antiques and Unique Gifts
9 Bridge St. Newport, RI 02840
Tel: 401-848-8477
thru Dec 30th; Reception Thurs Nov 8th 6-8pm
dir – if you’re coming into town via the Newport bridge/138, Bridge st is the light on America’s Cup Ave just before the baseball field & visitor’s center – make that left and the shop is about 2/3 of the way down on the left.

Dutch Oven, 8×10in, acrylic on panel
it’s a fact: i’m always behind schedule. if there’s an up side, it’s that the wine’s been opened and apps are out by the time i join the fray…but it also means that things can pile up. like site maintenance.
been ridiculously far behind but i’ve FINALLY taken care of some much-needed updates:
there’s about a dozen newly-posted works in the ‘FOOD PAINTING ARCHIVES’ sidebar to the right. Some, like the Dutch Oven above, were on the wall at the Open Studio and never got a proper introduction. (you would’ve heard that i was wicked happy with the economy of the marks.)

Pomegranate II, 7×12in, acrylic on panel
Others, like this pomegranate, are brandy-new. (it’s headin’ for Newport, RI…but more on that tomorrow.)
what else?
the ‘CURRENT OR UPCOMING SHOWS’ sidebar to the right has been overhauled, too. need to know something about an event – even the works at a specific venue? wanna check there first.
got a few more things in the pipeline…but at least, for this minute, i’m up to date – thanks for coming along for the ride.

petit fours I, 4×6in, acrylic on panel
To post or not to post, that is the question
sometimes there’s not enough time in the day for both writin & paintin – and just cause there’s nothin doin’ on the site don’t necessarily mean that things are quiet in the studio. capisce?

petit fours II, 4×6in, acrylic on panel
this pair of petits fours is just a taste- tomorrow i’ll have updates on the new work and events in the coming weeks.
