Studio Update – dog, stars

If I need to refocus & defrag, I can usually turn to kickin a soccer ball around with my dog or getting out on my motorcycle.

The recent extended cold snap (or Mercury in retrograde, who knows….) has forced me inside and back to books. Long-time sources of inspiration – Joseph Campbell, Barry Lopez, Rick Bass, Norman Maclean – full of wonder at the beauty and mystery of the natural world, have been stacked on my nightstand.

Orion, 24×24″(approx) acrylic, NFS

Another source of solace has been stargazing. I’m no astronomer – the skies simply refresh my mind. The constellation Orion, welcoming winter, is still in our skies for a few more weeks. This piece was done for my brother ’bout 12 years ago but the theme will show up in my work again soon…

Sleeping I, 20×20″, mixed media, NFS

My dog is getting on in years & spends a lot of time sleeping by my feet. I’ve been using him as a model more often lately & have posted some studies in the ‘DRAWINGS’ section of the main studio site.

This painting (apologies, bad photo of the work in progress) has just been juried into the Pawtucket Arts Collaborative members’ exhibit. The show opens March 3rd (reception Mar 14th) & is at the Arts Collaborative gallery in the Blackstone Valley Visitors Center in downtown Pawtucket.

Be back tomorrow with more of the daily food studies-

Valentine’s Day Studies & News

4×6″ acrylic, sold

chocolate kisses II,
4×6″ acrylic, sold

Whew! Finally catching my breath after the weekend.

Our Open Studio event to promote the Will Paint for Food collaboration was a rockin success. Thank you – if you bought work, or pitched in when it was 4 deep and we needed impromptu catering, or stopped by to say hello – thank you so much! It was an amazing way to kick off the year – Lydia’s got pictures of it here.

Hot on the heels of the event, a commission for Valentine’s Day. The 2 pieces above were part of a set – the other two are here.

Finally, a pair of listening suggestions for a cold, blustery Valentines in the Northeast…Nina Simone’s What More Can I Say? & Billie Holiday’s Crazy He Calls Me.
