Works in Progress.

Among the ’surprise hits’ of my recent open studio -these lil acrylic studies, sitting on a shelf, minding their own business. Started ‘em this past summer, one a day to keep the rust at bay, never really intending to show them. I’ll eventually get them into the ‘Studio’ section of the site under their own category, but here’s a peek for now….

Painted from life using a limited palette, they’re loosely based on the ’sight-size’ method I studied at Dana Levin’s atelier.
Seems like I’m not the only using this exercise – someone saw these and suggested that I check out the work of Duane Keiser. He’s making the studies in addition to his regular work, seems to have led the charge in selling the daily works on eBay and (in addition to some great writing about art and process) recommends Annie Dillard’s Pilgrim at Tinker Creek. Duane, if you’re ever in the area, stop by for coffee?

Gift.

I try to time my second cup of coffee with NPR’s The Writer’s Almanac. This morning, Garrison read “Morning News in the Bighorn Mountains” by William Notter.

Ran down to the office, and with a little digging online, found “Jubilate.”

His words are why I paint.

Open Studio recap – Thankyuh Verrah Much.

Never did I expect the turnout we had over the past weekend – we lost count at around 600 visitors. It was my first chance to open my doors & get some feedback to the work and space. (and a good excuse to throw a party, as if one was needed….)

Surpises? Old friends dropping by. Connecting with fellow artists. Raves over the small studies I had sitting on a shelf. Great response to the leap of faith we took in signing a lease for the space – to everyone, Thankyuh Verrah Much.

Open Studio This Weekend

This weekend, I will be opening my studio to visitors for the Pawtucket Open Studios (part of the Pawtucket Arts Festival)

So, an Open Studio?

A chance to see my new digs. Works in progress for shows in the upcoming months – drawings, prints, and paintings.

A chance to meet my neighbors….painters, photographers, printers, glass artists, woodworkers, designers, sculptors, jewelers. more? mosaics. furniture. a circus school….yoga classes. learn to tango…even a chance to learn exotic dancing for your partner.

A chance to see what’s going on inside 11 revitalized mills in Pawtucket. More than 50 chances, actually, if you have the time to visit everyone (and you thought the Dylan show at McCoy was a big deal…)

All for free.
